Let it hereby be known (dear Eru that sounds pretentious) that the Silmarillion is my favourite Tolkien book, and generally one of my all-time favorites.

Though there's hardly anything I won't read, I almost exclusively write humor (but when I don't, it gets really dark, so be warned). This is because the more I like a character, the more fun I like to poke at them. No, I don't know why this is, either. What makes this especially weird is that my favorite characters are T

Title: A Light In The East by Spiced Wine
Rated: Mature [Reviews - 104]
Summary:

A crossover gift-story between Esteliel's Ethuil'waew and my Dark Prince verse.

What would have happened had Legolas not been able to flee to Imladris and Glorfindel when he found he was pregnant? What if he fell into entirely different hands?
~~~
After the Last Alliance, Vanimórë, freed for a time from Sauron's control, made himself the ruler of a Sud Sicanna, a wealthy city in the Harad. Five hundred years later, he journeys to Szrel Kain on the Sea of Rhun where rulers of the East are meeting to discuss renewing their attacks upon Gondor. Vanimórë goes to gather information, to keep his finger on the pulse of events.
~~~
Legolas, banished from his home, wanders into the hands of a clan traveling back to Rhun after a summer of trading. The Men, afraid he will bring ill-luck on them, mean to sell him, and in lands where the Dark Gods are worshiped Legolas' uniqueness would mean sacrifice, the death of both himself and the child he bears: Glorfindel's son.
~~~
He falls instead into the hands of the Dark Prince, the son of Sauron, who understands neglect and abuse only too well...
~~~
Glorfindel felt anguish as deep as a crack in the world in Vanimórë's soul.

“I know how Legolas feels better than thou canst imagine. Thou didst name me Vanimórë. That is my name in truth. Thou hast penetrating sight, or did. Vanimórë Gorthaurion. The son of Sauron holds and will protect Legolas Thranduilion and
thy son. Is that not wonderfully ironic, Glorfindel?”

Rated: Mature [Reviews - 217]
Summary:
~ Lúthien was not the only offspring of Maia and Elf born in the Elder Days, but Vanimórë's tale was never to be sung in glittering halls.

His mother was Elven.
His father was Sauron.
His birth was accomplished by the blackest sorcery of Morgoth Bauglir.
He was forged as a double-edged sword is forged, as lethal and as beautiful.

He would not break.

Summary:

At the end of the Third Age, Glorfindel and Vanimórë, son of Sauron, are the supreme Powers on Arda, having passed through Fos Almir, the Bath of Flame.

The mighty dead have returned, and Glorfindel leads the Noldor to a haven in the east of Middle-earth, which they call their New Cuiviénen. Fëanor, released from the Void, will rule there as High King.

But the ancient loves, hates and feuds of the Noldor have not dimmed or been forgotten with the ages, and their new life becomes a tinder-box of passion, pride and power. Ancient dooms and betrayals arise, and both new and ancient notes of the Great Music are played across the Fourth Age of Arda.

You're welcome! Here, have another flower! @-}--
Okay, so Wade didn't dare... Probably shit his pants and trembled for a bit, then Van said something along the lines of "Pitiful..." and killed him, correct now? *imagines the expression on Van's face if Wade had dared... Uh-oh* And you're right, victim-shaming is still far too common in this day and age.
The thing about Elves not being perfect angelic beings is, as I believe I've mentioned before somewhere, stuff I've had IRL fights with people about. In general, I don't like characters getting put up on a pedestal by the fandom as the ultimate example of goodness. I like my characters somewhat morally ambiguous, thank you very much, as that makes them more realistic and easier to relate to.
Delicately sidestepping the Ainur, I don't believe anyone is either completely good or completely evil. My feelings for Maeglin could be described mostly as "meh", with a headshake or so for the whole Gondolin thing. With an extra headshake for the people who think him disgusting for lusting after Idril, then turn around and ship Maedhros/Fingon like it's going out of fashion (which it will not, because it's totally canon). And yeah, I don't understand the F

The bit about the orobouros brand was nothing short of awesome, that it could also be taken to mean a ravenous force devouring itself... Wow.
So yeah, what's the deal with Van's brand again? It's probably explained somewhere else why his apotheosis didn't erase it, but I've forgotten if it is.

Wow, Caranthir POV? Cool!

I really like the way you write him, showing his love for his brothers and father, and his fierce loyalty to them.

Love the interaction the Fëanorians have going on here. It's supposed to be a new life, a new chance for all of them, and in a way it is, but old issues keep on appearing to haunt them. :(

Seriously, Turgon needs a smack upside the head or something else to make him see sense... And there is no cure for the Valar's stupidity.

Author's Response: Yes, Caranthir POV -- I wrote him a bit in Magnificat I but have not much touched on him. As much as anything, I think this story is about how these people, reborn and with a chance at a new life, manage 'living' -- and they realise I think that it can never be paradisaical; nothing is ever really ended.

This is such an amazing insight into the Void and those who dwell in it!

Unfortunately I can't pay special attention to the individual details of what makes it awesome. This is because right now I am a bundle of confused sad emotions, with a little intense anger and disgust, but mostly you got me right in the Mairon feels and excuse me while I make sad noises in a corner somewhere - and what's this? Epic Van feels while he's not even there? :'(

And oh dear what's with the Melkor feels and OMG poor Vanya and - *curls up under bed and cries, but not before hugging Van, Vanya and Coldagnir*

Author's Response: Ohh, right in the Mairon feels? Well - that is a reaction :) Sorry about the confused, sad emotions, but maybe you can use that in your writing? This chapter sort of came out of nowhere, but I felt it was important due to what will be written later in Magnificat: Anvil, because that will involve quite a bit of Melkor and Mairon before and after the Void.

Thank-you!!

Oh geez, the Annatar/Celebrimbor feels are killing me! :'(

The glimpses back to Ost-in-Edhil show how complex a character your Annatar/Sauron/Mairon really is, his unfeigned enthusiasm, joy, and even love... and he still did what he did to Tindómion, and ended up sacrificing all the good things for power. X(

Also, I'm amused in a dark way by the fact that Sauron couldn't completely hide his "soft side" (well, as soft as he can be) from Vanimórë...

Poor Tindómion in this chapter, though, to have such a memory surface... *hugs if he wants to be hugged*

And Edenel... here he thought he wanted to keep away from his former/somehow still kin, and he still feels so drawn to them... Somehow I'm happy for him, but it still makes me cry.

Of course, it excuses/justifies less than nothing, but nobody deserves to have their attraction (or whatever) returned like that. Also, I tend to have massive feels for Dark Lords of the "he didn't deserve what happened to him, and later, nobody deserved what he did to them" variety.

Oh, I know what you mean, it's so complicated and tragic. Actually, since I have started writing more of Sauron (though mostly in the Crucible stories, I am growing to understand more the relationship he has with Van, and that in itself is very convoluted - I also don't think any-one but Sauron could have done what they did, following such a plan without faltering, or in any way lowering his guard so that Van might see what he was doing.

Dafuq did I just read? You have no idea how much I'm laughing right now... XDDDDD

Nitpick 1: Sauron not wanting to destroy everything isn't OOC, it's canon as far as I'm concerned. He may want to kill everyone who stands in his way, but he's still a creator at heart.
Nitpick 2: He would never, ever call himself "Sauron", he canonically "does not permit it to be spelt or spoken". Unlike, for example, Voldemort, this is not because he wants people to fear even his name, but because he hates that one. Why? Well, nobody likes to be called "The Abhorred", do they? He'd call himself "Mairon", as that was his original name, or possibly "Annatar" again. (No, this isn't just my headcanon, but I forget where to find the relevant quotes.) (Actually, I guess he could be indulging in a little self-flagellation by introducing himself with a name he hates, but I didn't get that impression.)

Author's Response: Well, the name thing is sort of a plot point... (The reason why he called himself Sauron instead of using a nicer alias becomes important in later chapters...) I'm glad I made you laugh! :D
