So sorry to hear about your cat, Caunedhiel, and keep my fingers tightly crossed for him to be all right and come back. It's so hard to lose them, and harder still to not know what's happened.

Thanks Gabriel. It's hard to take in the things that are happening all round the world at the moment.

Through long ages I have ruled. Though I was not expected to ever take up the throne. Through the dark shadows of the first kin-slayings I became Noldóran. Back then my people were... reviled, spat at, whispered about...

I will remember those terrible few hours keenly for the rest of my life. My brother and I never realised what was happening until it was too late. We heard the screams first; too shrill, filled with too much pain. When we came upon Alqualondë, the swan haven, city of singers and sea farers, I fear I did not recognise it.

Once the walls had glistened with pearls, now they cried tears of blood. Nothing could ever have prepared me for the carnage waiting at the docks. From bodies of the slain, lying where they had fallen, blood dripped into the sea, mingling sadly with the salty water.

I saw Fëanáro slaughter the remaining Teleri with those damned swords. He showed no mercy. He is no kin of mine!

I turned back when I heard Mandos, the doomsman of the Valar. Those words still send a shiver up my spine. How could my brother continue on, knowing the doom that was before him? How could he sentence his people to that? Oh, Nolofinwë...

“Why?” I asked him, when I realised he intended to carry on. I would not lead my own people into such folly!

Nolofinwë gazed at me, his mien set in stone, “I have mine own oaths to keep brother.” He said as he turned back to the north.

Fëanáro’s eyes had burned with contempt, boring a hole into the back of my head as I lead those with enough sense left back to Tirion. Those of us who returned faced the judgement of the elves in Aman, seeing us as kin-slayers, though those who had come back with me had not taken part in those atrocities.

I heard that Fëanáro took the swan ships’, leaving behind only those that had burned to ash. I thought of Nolofinwë, I wondered what he was thinking as he watched those burning ships float listlessly in the water. I wondered what madness had taken him to dare to cross the Helcaraxë.

I stand now on a Teleri ship, this time leading an army of Vanyar and Noldor, come to fight Morgoth. Arda Marred is a short distance away now. I wonder whose faces I will not see. I wonder who has been lost...

No. I cannot think about that. I need to be strong. Let us see who dares say Arafinwë Finwion, High King of the Noldor is a coward anymore!
