Most of my teachers were lovely - there were just a couple that were not nice.

I hate hearing about teachers who ruined a child's interest or confidence or curiosity- as a teacher myself, it actually hurts to think how someone has done that. It doesn't happen much now.

I was a very quiet student, easily cowed and very much a loner, nevertheless I was a good student, but he was not a nice teacher :(

Spiced, what a horrible experience about that teacher! That would drive anybody off the subject, I'd imagine.

Story notes:
Mathom-house: The 'museum' of Michel Delving

A place in Michel Delving where the Hobbits collected and displayed items they had no particular use for. It was known to contain a store of weapons, and for a time also held Bilbo's mithril coat.
--from "The Encyclopedia of Arda"
Chapter notes:
Writing meme (from my l-j: Send me a song lyric and a character/pairing/fandom/etc. and I’ll tell you about the fic I’d write with that lyric as the title (and write a few sentences of it).
'I don't want to fall and say I lost it all, because there's a part of me that hit the wall, leaving pieces of me behind, and I feel like I'm breaking inside.'

Fandom: Tolkien.

Pairing: Any, but slash only, please.

Idly, his fingers traced the cracks in the broken floor as he tried to think just when everything had started to go wrong. The most obvious answer was the death of Finwë -- but hadn't the death of Míriel foreshadowed it? Even her very name had proved divisive: Țerindë or Serinde. A long, bitter debate had started over that particular issue, one that was never quite resolved.

There was a noisy rattling of keys, then the heavy door to his room swung open to reveal one of his so-called guards.

"Come. The master has thought of a new use for you."
Chapter end notes:
Thank you to Spiced Wine, who suggested the lyric.
