It's a horrible feeling when a friendship ends.
That moment when you realise that other person you thought was so close, no longer cares about you. Sometimes it's a slow drift and neither of you notices until it's too late and the bridge has become too large to cross. Other times it's a sudden break, an argument, a badly spoken word and that friendship turns to brittle glass and smashes to pieces around you. All you are left with is the sharp taste of being used in your mouth, the cold spikes of anger and hurt in the pit of your stomach.
That is what I felt the moment the oath stirred from its slumber in the hidden depths of Nargothrond. I saw it alight in my cousin's eyes and knew myself to be lost. No friendship or love no matter how true could have stopped it.
