That was a great and meaningful end to an awesome first story.
I'm glad Aragorn sorted the guilt he had for thinking he was betraying Arwen.
That its something that is understood by the Elves and sometimes a necessary in wartime, especially to keep spirits high.
A great read! Onto the next one. :D

Author's Response:

I'm so glad you enjoyed the story. Thanks so much for all your comments!

Oh no! Poor Elwin, poor Leggie.
I think their relationship, although filled with wonderful moments and times together, seemed to be doomed from the start.
With Thranduil's vehement disapproval of the whole affair and Legolas's inability to give of himself as a result of this and for several other reasons as well, it just seems such a heartbreaking situation. Sniff.

Author's Response:

Really sad, I know. Poor Legolas. The full reason why he couldn't love Elwin with his whole heart is revealed in Dragon Fever. Thanks!

Name: Gabriel (Signed) · Date: July 18, 2017 8:49 · For: Chapter 7 - Vilyamar
Wow! Aragorn and Legolas act like two starving wolves with each other. Legolas who hasn't been with another male since Elwin forty-fifty years ago, and Aragorn who's new to all this but is desperate to assuage his need. Is he falling in love with Legolas or is in fact a little in love with him or is it just purely a release? Because he seems so starstruck by Legolas.

Now I know Arwen isn't even in this story, but I can't help but feel for her in all this. Remaining chaste while she awaits her future husbands return. I wonder what would happen if she ever found out?
A great read! :)

Author's Response:

Oh, I think Aragorn falls for Legolas bigtime in this, and vice versa. I never dealt with how Arwen took this but in this verse she would have understood. Thanks for lovely reviews!

There's a part in this chapter where Legolas soothes a dying stag, before breathing in its soul; very interesting. I like reading about Elves and their affinity with nature and their so called "magic" such are the legendary secrets of the Elves.
Oh, and Legolas and Aragorn seriously need to get a room. :D

Author's Response:

I was inspired to write the scene with the stag by stories of American Indian hunters thanking a deer for giving its life so they could eat. Figured elves would be in tune with nature as well. And yes, lol, Aragorn and Legolas need to get a room.

Aah! I like seeing Legolas in action, such an awesome warrior and having Aragorn come to his aid, wielding Anduril, classic!
I must say I like your Legolas you've made him such a strong character a {badass} of sorts without detracting from the beauty of his Elvish roots.
I hope that all makes sense. :)

Author's Response:

Yep, I do loves me some badass warrior Leggy. So glad you're enjoying the story. Thanks for commenting!

Haldir's a bit of a sleaze isn't he. It's good to see the Elves aren't all perfect and it adds a bit of drama.
There were a couple of parts I liked in this chapter, but my favourite was the dream Legolas had of Elwin playing his fiddle, telling him it is okay with him that Legolas moves on, or at least finds companionship with another, while Elwin awaits rebirth. Even if Leggie is still torn up about losing him. Sniff.
Really sad. :(

Author's Response:

Heh, yeah Haldir's a sleeze in this one. I've read so many since then with Haldir as hero that this is sort of an anomaly. Glad you like the dream about Elwin. It gets sadder.

I'm going to say it, you're really good at Het.
And what a surprise Melindi has a husband, poor Leggie, it's like the tables are turned.
I completely understand Aragorn being irritated, when Legolas has the freedom to pursue other people and Aragorn must deny himself for the love of Arwen. I think that would peeve anyone off in the same circumstances.
Loving it! :)

Author's Response:

Glad you liked the het. lol. There's a bit here and there in other fics, but for the most part I went full slash. Glad you're enjoying the fic!  Thanks!

I must say I think I'll start calling Legolas, Mr Smooth, he certainly knows how to pleasure everyone and rather adeptly.
I also felt for Melindi, feeling a little used by Legolas, like she is the stand in, until Legolas finds someone else, although everyone knows, Legolas would not do that, he just fell in love. Yet I still felt sad for her.
And there it is. The very thing I was just mentioning. Legolas is attracted to Aragorn! Wow!
This is a very interesting concept.
Can't wait to read on. :D

Author's Response:

Mr. Smooth. LOL! Howver, as you'll see, Melindi gets her licks in, so to speak.  So many people started in fandom with writing Legolas/Aragorn. There just seemed chemistry between them in the movies.  When I was writing this, there was a real trend in the fandom (still out there) to write Legolas as weak, wimpy, weepy. He was a warrior for heaven's sake! I wrote him here as bi and anything but weak. Thanks for the comment!

This is your first LOTR fic? Wow! This is good! I feel like I'm watching the movie, except with some extra scenes to it.
I know Aragorn is trying to remain chaste for Arwen's sake, but please he seriously needs to find some outlet for all that pent up desire, otherwise I feel for Arwen on their wedding night.
Who doesn't love Legolas. His lover Elwin; I would seriously like to know more and read more on him. If there is other fic's with him in it, I must have missed it. I remember seeing something about him dying, poor Leggy. I'll endeavour to read that one. :D

Author's Response:

Ah yes, this was the first fanfic I ever wrote, back in fall of 2002. Seems like ancient history now. My inspiration was trying to come up with a "canon" way for Aragorn to have a relationship with Legolas that would still fit with his love for Arwen. Elwin was a creation to give Legolas a tragic backstory, who then took on a life of his own. When I first wrote this, a number of people wanted more about him. So, I wrote Dragon Fever, which talks about the beginning of Legolas' and Elwin's relationship, and then I wrote Time Enough for Love, which takes place after Dragon Fever but before the events in Ohtarnil. Thanks for comments!

Wonderful and hot! I really enjoyed reading this story again. I look forward to reading the other Legolas/Elwin fics when you post them.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much Naledi.  I'm glad you enjoyed another reading.

This chapter is heartbreaking. You made me see Legolas's grief so clearly, it made me cry. And to think that he's prepared to open himself up to inevitable grief in the future by opening his heart to a mortal.

As far as I know, you haven't written about Legolas and Elwin's reunion in Valinor, but I hope they are finally able to be together, and Legolas can be healed of the dragon's curse.

Author's Response:

I've never written the reunion of Legolas and Elwin in Valinor even though I've had several requests for it.  As my friend Haleth said, in the elfscribe 'verse Elwin was the love of Legolas' life, even the dragon prevented him from feeling it as he should have been able to.  Thanks for the comments!  As you know, one more chapter coming.

OK. That was hot ;-) But trust Aragorn to remind Legolas of Elwin right when he's holding a razor to his throat. I'm trying to remember what happens next, but can't remember. That's good really. It means I can enjoy it as though this is the first time I'm reading it :)

Author's Response:

Hi Naledi.  Right, not good to upset someone holding a razor at your throat.  lol.    Posting the next chapter.  Thanks for commenting.

Oh wow - I'd forgotten about the inhaling of the stag's spirit. I love that, and the effect it has on Aragorn. It's a beautiful idea,

Author's Response:

I guess I figured that elves, being close to nature, would have certain sensibilities about killing a deer, but that in taking the breath, they would also take on certain characteristics of the beast.  Thanks Naledi.

Poor Aragorn - I suspect Haldir is only adding to his confusion. And a spell alone with Legolas won't help, either. Makes fun reading for us though :)

Thanks for the quick updates. Looking forward to more.

Author's Response:

Thanks Naledi.  Glad you're enjoying it.

Name: Naledi (Signed) · Date: November 18, 2012 17:24 · For: Chapter 4 - The Celebrant

I love how you can weave comedy with tragedy without detracting from either. If anything the reminder of how Legolas's relationship with Elwin is made all the more poignant by contrasting it with the lighter moments of the chapter.

The dream meeting with Elwin brought a lump to my throat. It's cruel that even then Legolas couldn't explain to Elwin about the dragon wound. I hope that one day he'll understand what really prevented Legolas from giving his whole heart.

Author's Response:

Thank you for what you said about weaving comedy with tragedy.  Perhaps it's just that that's how life is and they each lend poignancy to the other in their contrast. Comic relief is important and who can take unrelenting tragedy?  I'm pleased that the dream of Elwin was touching and that you remember my other Legolas stories so well.  Thanks for your comments.

LOL Can't help feeling Legolas deserved that.

"I thought I’d join you after all, if you’ll have me," he said.

Now there's an offer Aragorn is going to find hard to refuse ;)

Author's Response:

Now there's an offer Aragorn is going to find hard to refuse ;)

*smiles* Yes, I rather suspect so.

Oh my. How come I missed this? A lovely, elegant piece, much as your Legolas. And not too predictable with Legolas going to his maiden.

Author's Response:

There is certainly a wealth of stories out there and this one was first posted on lxf and slashlords yahoogroups (before we all went to LJ) 10 years ago.  So, it's no wonder you missed it.  I find it funny that I started out my slashy career writing het sex.  I must have needed to ease into it a bit.  LOL.  Thanks for fb.

Name: Naledi (Signed) · Date: November 17, 2012 19:37 · For: Chapter 2 - Melindi

I'm glad you're posting this here. I read it years ago and it's still one of the few Legolas/Aragorn fics I like. I normally don't like to see Legolas paired with a mortal, but You write your characters so beautifully, I'm prepared to forgive you anything.

I hope you'll be posting your fics featuring Elwin as well. I know it will make me cry to read them again, but I don't think I'll be able to resist.

Looking forward to more!

Author's Response:

I'm glad I'm forgiven for pairing Legs with a human.  LOL.   How nice that you read it years ago and remember it fondly.  To answer your question, I do hope to post the rest of the Melethryn Legolas arc, including the Elwin stories at some point. Since you mentioned them, probably sooner rather than later. Thanks so much for commenting.
