I love this- that layer upon layer of tension, love, delight, history, anguish- so beautifullyt told. and your customary fabulous imagery that just has me THERE- so i cans ee and touch and feel eveything. 'A sharp draught hissed through the room, its edges bitter with smoke and damp stone, and the fire leapt and spat sparks' - I always envy you your ease with imagery.
The cheeky openig of Fingon's curiosity and Maedhors' charming slight embarrassment (barely) or interest is perhaps a better word:
“'This position will require a stout stool, and a good deal of balance and trust...'” he read aloud, and grinned as Maedhros shifted at his desk. “Maitimo, where did you get this?”
“Celegorm sent it to me.” Maedhros quirked an eyebrow, all poise and calm, though a pink glow crept through his cheeks. “He thought I might find it interesting.”
“I'm sure he did.” Fingon turned the page, and his eyes widened. Heat like a warm summer wind curled through his belly. “Sweet Eru above, how does that work?”
is so amusingly sweet, and the lovely banter between them is so affectionate but there is this THING between them, and Fingolfin and Maglor know but Fingon doesn't, not really but guesses
Fingon paused. He swallowed around a weight of cracked, cold rock. “I am glad you did.”
Shadows yawned as the firelight shifted and stirred. Maedhros breathed out, carefully, deliberately. “Forgive me.” His mouth tightened. “I should not -”
That weight of cracked cold rock is so much more than just his feeling, brilliant image.
And you write damn good sex too:)
Author's Response: Aww, ziggy, thank you so much! I love these two, I adore writing them. I'm so glad the balance between humour and poignancy worked; I didn't want it to get mawkish, but of course there's going to be repercussions from Maedhros's past.
Wow, what a great snippet into Matimo/Findekano. Gosh I love these two and you write them so well. I love also that you write their sex more realistically than i have encountered in many a fanfic. And I am so glad Fingon basically said, f' it, i'm staying! Thanks for sharing this. I loved it
Author's Response: Thank you so much! I love these two as well. And yes, Fingon does have that reckless 'screw the consequences' streak; I can't imagine where he got it...!
I loved this on AO3, and on a reread it still evokes the same feelings. Such closeness here, such tenderness, and the fact that their passion has survived Maedhros’ torment and mutilation is so triumphant, it’s just wonderful!
Author's Response: Thank you, I'm so pleased it stands up to a re-read! They're amazing characters, I must write more about them. *Adds to ever-growing list*
