Brilliant writng as always- the visual texture of this is superb, the sense of stillness but observing much passing distantly. Poor Maglor- the pity of it. And then you just have Vanomore articualte the inevitable. But there is hope of course, with Elgalad's knowing that he will not simply leave things hopeless. Lovely.
Author's Response: Thank you! In Summerland, Spiced was much kinder to Maglor and Claire than I plan to be - but once she opened up that other world, I couldn't help but go and play! And it gave me an excuse to write Van and Elgalad, which I have wanted to do before now, but it has never quite worked.
Well, I do hope we might see them meeting, one day!
Author's Response: :D ...maybe! (One day. I have so many fics to write before then.)
Fëanor would hate it, wouldn’t be, Maglor having been alone so long ;__; although I believe he would approve of Claire.
I hope he never finds out!
Lol, yes, to him, they would be more ‘guidelines’ than rules :D
Author's Response: "I believe he would approve of Claire." - I hope so! It would be an interesting meeting...
No, Elgalad wouldn’t interfere! And what’s the point of having all that power if you can’t break a few rules ;) Well, guidelines, :) I think Van makes them up as he goes along. :)
Author's Response: I can just imagine Fëanor encouraging that attitude, as well! "Surely they're more like *guidelines* than actual rules...?" (Not that the reality of Paradox/Summerland would sit well at all with Fëanor :/ )
I am totally thrilled and squee-ing about this. I know I just dived into ‘Summerland’, and this is the absolutely perfect prequel to it. I can imagine Vanimórë just being so curious about the Portal and this reality, of St. Andrews and Claire and Maglor flashing across it and Vanimórë doing a ‘rewind’. If he saw it, and saw the bleakness of Maglor’s life (most of it) and then the warmth and acceptance of Claire, I think he could not have just ignored it. Maybe he walked away once or twice, but ultimately, he had to interfere. Thank you so much! I adore it!
Author's Response: Thank you!!! Yes, I can just see that - Vanimórë walking away, telling himself he should leave it alone, and yet going back and changing things anyway. And of course Elgalad would encourage him, or at least not hinder things.
