I think you've handled this relationship really well.
There's strong emotion in that exchange in front of the Gates in the Unfinished Tales and also a sense of other ties, whether of loyalty or friendship, and this bitter-sweet scenario fits that and what might be their previous history.
I also like how you've handled the background, with just the right amount of detail, especially that description of Glorfindel and Ecthelion by the hearth.
Author's Response: Thank you so much! And yes, totally agree with you, there is such a sense of history and emotion in that passage - and then we never see them together again! I had to fix that ;) and I'm pleased you liked the backdrop of the story too, I did have to be a bit careful, there was a temptation to include much more of Glorfindel and Ecthelion - but this isn't their story.
Lovely, Narya. Unexpected pairing but oh you made it work so well!
Author's Response: Thanks Nelya :)
I just read this again, and found something else I loved; despite the fact that it was supposed to be comfort for the long winter night I think they actually did find something else, something more, and something you can explore further :)
Author's Response: :) Yes, I think there's more to this than a one-nighter, although it's not a straightforward happily ever after either! (What ever is...?) Thank you so much.
