This is just a great fic- like a tapestryshowing moments of his life, the loveliness of the moment Findekano joins him, and the flash of white light as he is bereft, and then the fiery end. I like the fire images that run through this too. Great writing.
Author's Response: Thanks Ziggy--love the tapestry description--makes me think of Miriel and Vaire weaving the story of the exiled Noldor in Mandos Halls. Fire is so woven into the story of the Fëanorions but Maedhros especially. Thanks for reading!
These are gorgeous, you do so much in so few words - from evoking those earliest memories being tickled by his mother's hair, through discovering love with Fingon, all the way through the Wars until at the end he can't even bring himself to love the twins he adopted. And fire running all the way through. Really beautiful.
Author's Response: Thank you! It really was an exercise in restraint, trying to distill it down to just a few words for each memory. Fire is such a recurring theme in Maedhros' life I think. I did a similar one with Fëanor--I'll have to post it sometime.
Reading this, makes you realize just what Maedhros has endured. How much he has lost. His life is so heartbreaking.
Through sheer will, determination and love for his Father and brothers, don't forget the oath; did he last as long as he did. :(
What a life!
Author's Response: So true. His ability to return, to survive, to retain his motivation is just astounding. Fire definitely is symbolic in his life from his "fiery" hair to his father's forge, the ships at Losgar, the Balrogs/fires of Angband and his very end. This was my first Drabble and nyx thraduillon on ffnet encouraged me to try it with another character after I wrote this study on Maedhros. I had been remarkably intimidated by Fëanor and was very reluctant to write him but I tackled him in a series of drabbles like this, thanks to encouragement from fellow writers, and it was very illuminating. It brought me a much more nuanced understanding of him. I'll find it and post it sometime.
