Because you can just secretly write something for someone and they don’t know until they open the ‘stocking’

I think I just really *hate* prompts. And expectations, although I do quite like things like the Fandom Stocking

I got really ill the fist time I did it and after that, every time I thought about it started to feel poorly again. XD

challenge. Mind, most of my longer stories are exchange stories that wouldn't exist without the prompts or ideas given by the recipients. I also came to develop a sizeable part of my headcanon

Writing to specifications can totally help you when you're stuck otherwise. ;o) I was unsure about that, though, when I wrote my first exchange story, but started to really appreciate the challeng

I actually just did Ziggy a little gift-fic, but I am sure writing to specifications is horrendous.

But not everything works for everybody, and nobody should feel bad because this or that is not their cup of tea! Just be happy with what you create, or read and watch, share with fellow fans. <3

On the other hand, most people are easy to write for and happy to receive a gift in the first place, and like the story already for the simple fact that somebody was willing to write it for them.

Oh this is lovely Himring. I love the nod to Casablanca, and of course, I am a sucker for anything angsty, remembering lost loves and the inevitable end we all spiral towards. That's what makes the elves such a great study on the human character, particularly the Noldor, that despite their enduring lives they too wait their Doom. Lovely, lovely...

Author's Response:

Thank you very much!

Yes, I feel the same way about the Noldor.

Glad you enjoyed this little bit of angstiness, including the nod to Casablanca!

There'a a lovely sense of nostalgia and whimsy in this- that knowlege that in fact, even for the Elves, nothing endures forever.

And I like the cheeky Casblanca reference at the end - giving th eclear image of Fingon raising his glass in wry toast.

Lovely.

Author's Response:

Yes, even for the Elves nothing endures forever. And they grow increasingly conscious of that.

I'm glad this worked for you, including the cheeky Casablanca allusion!
