Ah! The ending was a bit sad, but this was very well written. It also sounds like a tale the Rohirrim would relate to their children around an evening fire.

I can just picture the happy Hobbits relaxing on easy chairs and sofas with their kids at their feet while Sam, possibly with pipe in hand, begins his reading. Like them, I'm looking forward to some light-hearted entertainment as winter approaches.
