I suppose they'd have a heart attack if I told them I'm writing fanfic in English these days. *g*

experience like you, Alpha, but with English: two English teachers told me I should try to get a job where I wouldn't need foreign languages as they judged me too little giftd in languages.

My father was a maths teacher, too, which wasn't always easy for me, *g* - my classmates considered it as uncool in a major way to be daugther of a maths teacher. And I made a similar

Wow- Naledi- you were Maths!! I am an English teacher and so agree. I am so careful - don't always get it right but try to make sure every interaction is positive.

I was a maths teacher too! A really soul-destroying job sometimes, because many children arrived at school already afraid of the subject.

It is sad how a bad teacher can make a child's time at school a misery. When I was teaching I was very conscious that even the most casual, throwaway comment could wound.

I still remember my maths teacher. Pasty faced and smelled of onions. I was traumatised, especially when he told my parents the only thing I was good at was sports.

I hate hearing about teachers who ruined a child's interest or confidence or curiosity- as a teacher myself, it actually hurts to think how someone has done that. It doesn't happen much now.

Gwae--damn girl--read this with a smirk clear thru it and then had to laugh like crazy when Gamling thought of Eowyn being next to come of age--this was all out an AMAZING AND BRILLIANT STORY!!! I wanted to cry when you wrote that Dirsa had passed--I really liked the woman--you have outdone yourself and I will be watching for more from you--I have come to love the Rohirrim as much as the elves thru you stories and am ENTIRELY ENTHRALLED by them now--THANK YOU SO MUCH GIRL!!!!

Author's Response: Thank you, Thank you. I am gald to have been able to introduce you to some new things. It makes me happy to know someone enjoys these stories! I always look forward to your thoughts and comments. I will post the last story to this series tonight or tomorrow morning. It comes after "It started with A Bath" and well, it's the conclusion. If you don't see it under most recent, check under my stories directly. Also, I will be deleting "Comfortable" and reposting it as I have made changes and edits to it--and finished it. Hate to loose the comment, but I think I have a better story now. Thanks againfor reading! ~G

LOL--now that was both funny and yet heart wrenching!! Damn I still want a guy like Gamling--hell he would be able to whip my two holy terrors into place!!! I can only imagine his face and countenance at having to tell Theoden about what Eowyn saw!!! Believe me I know what you mean by rl--I haven't been having the best of times lately myself and I pray yours lightens up and lets you get back to writing--I know I have missed your writing and I have missed my writing although I have already started the third book!!

Author's Response: Yah, just had to do it...although it was toned way down as to what she saw (the origional draft was TOO disturbing) Thanks for reading and I always look forward to your comments. One more chapter to go...

YAY I am glad to see you back Gwae and I loved this chapter!! My heart broke for the losses Theoden, Theodred, Eomer and Eowyn experienced and LOVED the fact how Gamling was there for all of them even to the detriment of his own life but he seems to prefer that at this time anyway!!! I have been hit and miss here myself lately due to situations but it is good to start reading this story again--I have missed it and you!!!

Author's Response: Thanks! Glad you are still intersted. Made a promise to Zee back in Jan. that I would have this story finished by the end of Feb. (sent the last chapter to beta on the 28th) So it will finally be done and I can move on if the RL will let me. Need to finish "Comfortable" and just started a rather sweet Dwarf story (something new for sure). Two chapters left on this one...enjoy! ~G

there was a time when childbirth was as scary and as iffy a condition as any deadly disease. How families continued is beyond me. Good Job...

DAMN IT Gwae--my HEART BROKE and I am tired of shedding tears--LOL!!! What an AMAZINGLY EXCEPTIONAL JOB you did here and POOR Theoden and the babe!!! I know what Theoden is going through--atleast to a certain degree--I am tired of the losing too many people lately and this chapter helped me shed more tears that needed to be. I LOVED how Gamling handled everything there at the end--it was BRILLIANT AND VERY VERY MOVING!!! I wish I could write with such DEEP EMOTIONS that seem to come so naturally to you--I AM JEALOUS MY FRIEND!!! ANOTHER OUTSTANDING CHAPTER!!!

It's getting a bit hard to find new ways to say how much I love Gamling and how happy I am every time he's rewarded with something he very much deserves. Well, guess I found a way after all. LOL

Author's Response: And you said it beautifully! Thank you for reading and taking the time to comment (it really makes my day) I am glad this story is still enjoyable--there are still some lessons to learn and teach before this tale is done! ~G

Name: Alaeryel (Signed) · Date: July 27, 2012 21:16 · For: A Boy Becomes a Man
OH BLOODY HELL AND DAMNATION Gwae--any words I would say would not do justice to this chapter and ending!!!! It made ME BAWL LIKE NOTHING BEFORE!!! IT WAS DAMN STRAIGHT POETIC AND BEAUTIFUL!!! CAN YOU JUST KILL ME NOW AND GET IT OVER WITH?!!! This was an ABSOLUTE POIGNANT AND EXCEPTIONAL STORY, one that MORE THAN TOUCHED MY HEART AND SOUL!!! THIS WILL BE EMBEDDED INSIDE OF ME TIL I DIE--AMAZING!!!

Author's Response: Thank you, and it is not done just yet. Another few chapters just to really help him become a man and to tie into "It Started With A Bath." Thanks for reading! ~G

OMG Gwae--this was SWEET and BEAUTIFUL!!! I LOVED how Gamling dealt with Gwendel's beau and even MORE PLEASED how Aldric dealt with Gamling!! Damn why can't he or some other Rohirrim be real in our time? I really really want a man like him!!!! I can HARDLY WAIT to see Gwendel's reaction to this!! BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN, POETRY IN MOTION and MY HEART FEELS LIKE SINGING THE SONG OF LOVE!!!!

Author's Response: Sorry for the delay...been preoccupied as of late. Thanks for the comment and sticking with me on this. I thought it would be a nice little twist for Aldric to be older than Gamling by a few years. More soon (hopefully)! ~G

Name: Branwyn (Signed) · Date: July 07, 2012 7:23 · For: A Boy Becomes a Man
And yet again, Gamling has to take on a task he's not really old enough to take on. That said, yet again Gamling handles a situation better than one might expect. Why can't he exist in real life? *dramatic, wistful sigh*

Author's Response: He is young, but at least by their standards an adult. Still, it's hard for a big brother to step back. I hoped you enjoyed the little twist that Gamling faced when expecting a hesitant youth to have to meander through a throng of rowdy Riders to reach him--instead, it is a confident slightly older man! lol I thought that amusing and helped build the idea that Gamling would not have a problem with aged latter when he meets Kelda. Real men...well, I got a pretty awesome one, but not even he is quite Rohirrim (although he often resembles Zee's Gamling in Rider!) Thanks for reading! Now I need to charm the muses so I can get the next part written!

Gamling is an intelligent man. His sister is a lucky woman to have such an amazing brother and a sensible suitor! Brava!

Name: Branwyn (Signed) · Date: June 27, 2012 8:43 · For: A Boy Becomes a Man
Aw, man! It was bad enough that I felt for the poor sod when his daughter died, but now... Dammit, it made me cry! I think that's a testament to your writing that someone I loathed so much (and honestly, I will never excuse his treatment of 9-year old Gamling who just wanted to feed his sister) could spark so much pity in me. He certainly deserved a comeuppance, but... Bema have mercy, indeed.

(Aside: as for me the appropriateness of finding a 19-year old twice-fictional character sexy, I AM old enough to be his, er...aunt. Yes, that's it. His aunt. Or older cousin. LOL)

Author's Response: Thank you. Scenes like this just sort of float through my mind and remain until they are written. I knew people would hate him and when his daughter died, perhaps feel a bit vindicated...this, this was to show just how dark his inner turmoil was---yet, no one seemed to try and discover what cause the change. People left him to his own devise. [now, I AM old enough to be 19 year old Gamling's mother and War of the Ring's Gamlings wife---nothing wrong with a little cougar action! After all, Gamling's first was with a 30 something! LOL) Thanks for the comments--helps keep me motivated and I smile more.

OH GOD Gwae--You have me bawling!! I know I didn't like the man by the way he treated Gamling BUT HELL--this though DARK and MANIC--RIPPED MY HEART TO SHREDS!!!! You have OUTDONE yourself here--you took this in hand and you WROTE such a WHIRLWIND OF EMOTIONAL TURMOIL, DESOLATION and UNENDING GRIEF and did it WITH TACT, CARE and LOVE!!! It was one of the MOST MOVING chapters I have read and my HEART IS COMPLETELY BROKEN!!! You wrote this so BEAUTIFULLY, making me FEEL HIS PAIN that now I DEEPLY REGRET the HORRIBLE things I wrote about him!! ASTOUNDINGLY DONE MY FRIEND!!!!

Author's Response: A lesson in compassion I think. His demise came to me rather suddenly and demanded to be written as such--as is the case for most death's I write. I am glad it evoked such strong emotions. Everyone has or will feel some measure of despair in our lives and that makes it possible to relate to what Wulfhere felt...it gives us some understanding though I could never imagine life being so desolate as to look to the rope. One never knows what demons are chasing another---people are they way they are because of what happened in their past. Thanks for reading :) ~G

"I fear you will find me foolish" and "what if I do something wrong?" are two of the most sweet, yet slightly hilarious, lines I've read in a long time.

Other than that, good Lord is Gamling ridiculously sexy. That's okay, right? That I think a nineteen-year-old twice fictional character is sexy? LOL

Author's Response: Thank you. I wanted to make it clear that after his failed relationship, he swore off physical interest and focused on work...I was worried that it might be too "contrived" Glad it worked as planned. Of course it is okay. After all, that gangly, lanky, sweet 19 year old will grow up to be one of the HAWTEST, sweet Riders of the Riddermark! *wink* Thanks for reading and look for more in a few days!!

EXCELLENTLY DONE!! PERFECTION! If it is legal to say here--QUITE EROTIC!!! I will going and jumping into the pool after this for a COOL DOWN!! DAMNIT -- You HAVE OPENED MY EYES to new characters, I SOOOOOO LOVE Gamling!!! You, Zee, L8,Fin & more have made your characters pop for me--not just hard core Haldir anymore!!! This was AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL Gwae and OH SO SENSUAL!!! Will be watching for more --ALWAYS!!

Author's Response: Sorry for the delay in response---had a friend's wedding to deal with and I was in charge of her pastry table (and I never do anything simply!) Glad I was able to heat things up for you and yes, Haldir is quite the elf, but the men of Arda have their own merits and charm (thank you Zee). I regret...okay no I don't...leaving the tale there and what is to follow is a bit darker but fear not, life is full of sun and storms! Enjoy and thanks for the support!!

AH! Elfhelm. Love Elfhelm. Almost as much as I love Gamling, who now has gone through too much.

Author's Response: Yah, not sure how I stumbled upon him---OH YAH~looking for Gamling images come to think of it. Then combed through the movies to see if he made the cut (and he did); then it was teddy bear love! I regret to inform you that I am not through with Gamling...though some lessons he has yet to learn will be more...pleasant.

Name: Alaeryel (Signed) · Date: June 11, 2012 18:41 · For: A Boy Becomes a Man
BEAUTIFUL! BRILLIANT! EMOTIONAL! and POIGNANT! Gwae--I am in AWE of this story and ALL the others you have written!! There are sooo many others that SPEAK to my HEART but NOT QUITE LIKE YOURS!! I am sooooo ENRAPTURED with Gamling--DAMN WHAT I WOULDN'T GIVE TO HAVE ONE OF YOURS OR ZEE'S Rohirrim in my LIFE!!! FIERCE yet a QUIET GENTLENESS OF SOUL!!!! DAMN I am tired of DREAMING of such a man and wish I COULD FIND ONE IN THIS WORLD--YOU MAKE THEM COME ALIVE!!!!!!

Author's Response: Wouldn't we all---and I say that with an awesome hubby!! Still would like a little more Rohirrim in him (although he is quite a lot like Zee's Gamling in Rider---quite a lot!) At least I am able to bring them alive for you, at least for a short time. As it stands, I do not see my self leaving Rohan for a while. Thanks!

OH. MY. GOD. Gwae--BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN but SOOOOOO HEART BREAKING!! I CRIED not only for Gamling but for Wulfhere also. WHAT A HORRIBLE WAY to learn a lesson about judging others!! Gamling so DESERVED someone MUCH better but don't we all sometimes fall for the wrong one atleast once in our lives?
I DEFINITELY WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS!!! I thought maybe Gamling got to beat the crap out of him but this NO WAY!! You did a WONDERFUL JOB and it was AN EXCEPTIONAL CHAPTER!!!

Author's Response: This chapter really helps explain Gamling's reactions in the first story. Wulfhere may have been hard on Gamling but he had his own demons and they are not gone yet. Gamling learned a painful lesson and it will stick with him. e is right though, things would have been deferently had they made love but he's not one to just hump and run. I am glad it was a surprise...I like doing that to readers as much as cliff hangers. Nope, Gamling does not beat the crap out of him. :) ~G

Name: Branwyn (Signed) · Date: June 08, 2012 6:25 · For: A Boy Becomes a Man
Well, I certainly wanted Wulfhere to get his comeuppance, but...well, not like that. Poor man. Poor Eabae, too, though clearly, she wasn't good enough for Gamling. How sad. But very well-written.

Author's Response: Thanks. yah, I'm a bit hard on Wulfhere and it's not over quite yet. I needed something in Gamling's past to explain his panic in "It Started With a Bath" when Kelda ran in the winter. I also needed to wound his heart a bit. I am glad to know that I pulled it off well. Thank you for reading & taking the time to comment! ~G

I love how you captured the feeling of not completely knowing what one is doing the first time for both of them. In a sense, it's something I had kinda forgotten until I read this. Sweet and funny at the same time.

Author's Response: I struggled with it. I wanted to keep it virginal (not my usual writing)so between keeping it appropriate and trying to channel my own first experiences (which were long long ago! LOL) it was interesting. Really happy to know it worked. Unfortunately, the light heartedness will be short lived (Zee may throttle me before this is through)!!

Name: Alaeryel (Signed) · Date: June 04, 2012 17:33 · For: A Boy Becomes a Man
OH MY Gwae--SOOOO PERFECT!! Damn wish I had your ease at writing these scenes!! I either now need a COLD shower or I could go jump in the POOL!!!
AH to be YOUNG and IN LOVE like that again--it was TOTALLY and IRREVOCABLY a BEAUTIFUL and PERFECT chapter BUT what else could I EXPECT coming from YOU!!!
I FELT like I was the young girl and OOH what a man Gamling IS!! Will be waiting for more--HOW COULD I NOT!!!!

Author's Response: This was a tough one to write though as it dealt with what many would call underage relations. Still, I am glad it came off smoothly! As for ease of writing? Well, it comes from years of doing it (or reading it) and realizing that it cannot be forced. It truly has to just flow. More posting in about...well, five minutes...

Name: Branwyn (Signed) · Date: May 30, 2012 7:42 · For: A Boy Becomes a Man
So sweet - the Rohirrim (well, Wulfhere excepted) are such giving, wonderful, down-to-Earth people. Not for the first time, I wish they were real (well, realer than they are in my head) and I wish I could be one of them.

Author's Response: I've really fallen in love with them (thanks greatly to Zee and her portrayal of them) They are how I would like to think we were once upon a time and yah, I wish they were around--even Wulfhere! As for being one of them? It's possible--at least from the down-to-earth, generosity, caring, supportive behavior! Thanks for reading and commenting :) Always brightens my day!

Name: Alaeryel (Signed) · Date: May 29, 2012 23:39 · For: A Boy Becomes a Man
Gwae--TEARS of JOY filtered down my CHEEKS with this chapter!! It was COMPLETELY and UTTERLY PRICELESS, EMOTIONAL!! I especially LOVED when Gwendel gave Gamling his Medallion!! I felt like I was there in the back watching, it was REAL and the FEELINGS EXCEPTIONAL--LOVED LOVED LOVED IT HEART AND SOUL!!!!

Author's Response: Thanks. Having a big brother my self help with their relationship. Now, as I told Zee...I only hope what comes next will not result in my falling victim to Rohirrim Golf! Hang tight.... I also have not forgotten about your chapter--RL had to butt in (for happy reasons) for a time but I am working through it and should have it back to you in a couple of days. Thanks for the patience. ~G

Name: zeedrippyvessel (Signed) · Date: May 29, 2012 21:36 · For: A Boy Becomes a Man
Soooo proud... ending promptly with a 'uh oh'...

Author's Response: lol--yah, proud and a BIG uh-oh...you cannot imagine the uh-oh! Well, maybe...but things always get angsty when a woman is involved...hopefully you will not want to play Rohirrim golf with me! Thanks for reading :) ~G

Name: Branwyn (Signed) · Date: May 24, 2012 7:41 · For: A Boy Becomes a Man
So...Wulfhere is a bit of a misogynist as well? Charming! LOL

Good for Gamling for doing what he believed was right. The boy is becoming a man, indeed. :-)

Author's Response: No really--though he thinks a woman should know her place (it is the society they live in so to speak--take Eowyn) however, he is a bit more bitter when he drinks! You will learn a bit more about him in later chapters and while there is no excuse for being an ass...I hope he might get a bit of sympathy---or not ;) Thanks for reading!

Gwae--my HEART SMILED--MY HEART BROKE--and Gamling-what a perfect gentleman and unstinting friend--his support for Theoden during that hard time--I LOVED how you turned it around and now it was the young boy now caring for the new King--AND ABSOLUTELY BRAVO TO GAMLING FOR STANDING HIS GROUND WITH WULFHERE--Rohirrim Golf is sounding better and better--like Zee said!!! PERFECT AND EXCEPTIONAL!!!!
