I'm still waiting for the news! Or will I find it on FF net?

Alpha - she said she wouldn't be able to finish it but she wanted her readers to know she'd intended for a happy ending and Legolas being healed.

*waves* Hi Alpha! Yes, it's so sad about Nightwing. Her story inspired me to start writing and I'm sure she's inspired many others as well.

It is the mark of a good fairy-story, of the higher or more complete kind, that however wild its events, however fantastic or terrible the adventures, it can give to child or man that hears it, when the “turn” comes, a catch of the breath, a beat and lifting of the heart, near to (or indeed accompanied by) tears, as keen as that given by any form of literary art, and having a peculiar quality ... In such stories when the sudden “turn” comes we get a piercing glimpse of joy, and heart's desire, that for a moment passes outside the frame, rends indeed the very web of story, and lets a gleam come through.

Back to Middle-earth Month

Tomorrow we may come this way

And take the hidden paths that run

Towards the Moon or to the Sun.

~"Walking Song," The Fellowship of the Ring

Since the beginning of the days of Arda, light and dark have stood as counterpoints and as often as not mingled in the middle: first primal light shimmering upon the air itself, then gathered into the Lamps and next used to give rise to the Two Trees, the final fruits of which made the Sun and Moon and illuminated all of Arda. For this year's B2MeM, we invite you to take those hidden paths that run between the extremes of day and night.

Back to Middle-earth Month--affectionately known as B2MeM--is a month-long holiday of the Tolkien fandom, during which participants are encouraged to celebrate Middle-earth by creating fanworks about it. This year's B2MeM will present prompts for fanworks on a gameboard. Participants can choose any path on the board that appeals to them and use the prompts to make fanworks with the goal of reaching the center of the board before the end of the month. This is a self-challenge, not a competition. There are paths available for participants who want to work on a fanwork every day, as well as those who want to spend March crafting just one or a few pieces. As always, all creators of Tolkien-based fanworks are welcome, and fanworks from all Ages, about all characters, and of all ratings and genres are welcome on the B2MeM community.

B2MeM will begin on March 1 and run through March 31. The gameboard will be available on February 28. Watch this community, the Dreamwidth community, or the B2MeM Tumblr for further announcements as we draw closer to the start of this year's event. Please help us spread the word to other Tolkien fans and groups that may be interested in participating. Two banners are available to use and can be found below the cut; more icons and banners will follow as we approach the start of B2MeM.

Fandom Snowflake Challenge

It's that time of year - the Fandom Snowflake Challenge. A totally low-stress way of enjoying fandom

Here (From Dreamwidth)

Every day for the first 15 days of January, we're going to post a fannish challenge. It could be something as simple as reccing fanworks to talking about what you love about fandom. Follow the instructions to complete the challenge. Sometimes you'll be asked to post to your own journal and drop a link in the challenge post. Sometimes you'll just need to say "I did it!" in the comments of the challenge post.

Only do the challenges you're comfortable with. No one is keeping track, no one is going to give you grief if you don't complete a particular challenge. The point is to stretch your boundaries, but not at the expense of stressing you out. Fandom is supposed to be fun, and these challenges should be hard but should still be enjoyable.

This challenge is for everyone, all fandoms, all media, all platforms. It doesn't matter if you're in a fandom of two or if it's a fandom of a lot or something in between. It doesn't matter if your fandom has quieted down over the years or if it's currently awash with fannish activity. Canon, not-canon, old, young, real people or totally fictional. Doesn't matter. Come play with us.

And even though the challenge is being hosted on DW, please feel free to comment anonymously and signing your name if you don't have a DW account, or signing in with OpenID, which let's you use your LJ (and other platform) credentials to comment. We'd love for everyone to participate regardless of what platform you use - DW or LJ or Tumblr or Twitter or dA or Mibba or FanFiction.net or archives or mailing lists or old-school BBS.

Part of this challenge is about fandom and the awesome the people in it. The other part of this challenge, just as important, is about getting us to interact with each other. Fandom is what weaves us together, friendship and love and laughter and life. It's the fabric of our lives. Come share it with us.

And share it with others.

Move finished

The move is finished - if you can see this post, you are seeing the "moved" site. :) It can take a while for your ISP to send you to the new instead of the old server, but those problems should resolve on their own within a day.

Hosting move

Edit: it seems it can take 3-5 days for a .com domain change to go through, so until that actually happens and I can continue, posting and commenting is possible again.

I am going to move the archive to a new hoster today. To make sure that nothing gets lost, I've turned off the submission of new stories and comments until the move is over. Because the domain name is transfered to the new hoster too, there there might be a day or so of wonkiness until the domain points correctly to the new hoster.
