It is the mark of a good fairy-story, of the higher or more complete kind, that however wild its events, however fantastic or terrible the adventures, it can give to child or man that hears it, when the “turn” comes, a catch of the breath, a beat and lifting of the heart, near to (or indeed accompanied by) tears, as keen as that given by any form of literary art, and having a peculiar quality ... In such stories when the sudden “turn” comes we get a piercing glimpse of joy, and heart's desire, that for a moment passes outside the frame, rends indeed the very web of story, and lets a gleam come through.

Faerie is once again open
Hello! Some of you may remember that a few years back we were flooded with spam bots. At that time the site was closed save to existing members.
As of 18th July, Faerie is once again open to new members, who will be validated by myself and Narya (to screen out spambots).
We welcome all new members.
As you probably know, Faerie accepts fanfic of all genres and all ratings, books, films, games, anything — as long as it is based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s works in some way.
I’d like to just reiterate one of the rules as set down by the archive’s founder, Esteliel. Please do heed it. Since 2011, when it opened, Faerie has been a friendly, supportive place and it will remain so. If there are fics you don’t like, find some you do like. Everyone is welcome here — except those who use it as a platform to air their dislikes.
- Harrassment and bullying of other writers or commenters via such means as flames or MSTs is not allowed. This archive is intended to be a peaceful place where all fans of Tolkien fanfiction can come together, whether they prefer slash or het, elves or hobbits, stories with OFCs or apocryphal HoME canon. Please respect that the preferences of other writers and readers do not need to follow your own preferences.

TRSB - Sign-ups’ Open
Hi, fellow Tolkien fans!
We are thrilled to announce that signups for the Tolkien Reverse Summer Bang 2019 are now officially open.
Sign up as an artist here
Sign up as an author here
Sign up as a pinch hitter here
(Don’t forget that the signup itself is not an obligation; if you’re an author and you think you might like to create a treat, but know you can’t commit to a full collaboration, sign up anyway so we can give you access to the gallery!)
Please spread the word among your fellow artists and writers, whichever corner of the Tolkien fandom you come from! We can’t wait to have you along for the ride - whether you prefer bookverse, movieverse, gameverse, apocryphal HoME canon, or Tolkien's works set outside the Middle-earth cycle.
Good luck in your creative endeavours!
Mods Raiyana and Narya
