Thank you Spiced! But I think I've figured it out. I think I inadvertantly missed something out. *Shakes head at self* Anyway I skipped previewing and just added and it seems to have worked.

Well, there are no chapters waiting to be validated on here, which is a glitch but *sometimes* happens

It is the mark of a good fairy-story, of the higher or more complete kind, that however wild its events, however fantastic or terrible the adventures, it can give to child or man that hears it, when the “turn” comes, a catch of the breath, a beat and lifting of the heart, near to (or indeed accompanied by) tears, as keen as that given by any form of literary art, and having a peculiar quality ... In such stories when the sudden “turn” comes we get a piercing glimpse of joy, and heart's desire, that for a moment passes outside the frame, rends indeed the very web of story, and lets a gleam come through.

Rules & FAQ
By popular demand, we will reveal to you the name of your recipient at your request. Some people find it easier to write or to personalize a story if they know the identity of their recipient. Other people find that thought absolutely horrifying! Now, you can have it either way. If, at any time during the writing period, you wish to know the identity of your recipient, you may ask us. Since other writers do not want to be "spoiled," we ask that you please keep this information to yourself!

PROHIBITIONS / RESTRICTIONS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Can I ask for femslash?

Yes! We had our first femslash stories during the 2013 My Slashy Valentine swap, and we'd love to have you join us.

Q: I see a main focus on Elves, Men, Valar and Maiar. What about Dwarves and Hobbits?

A: In previous swaps there was less emphasis on Dwarves and Hobbits, but due to the release of the Hobbit movies, that's starting to change. We're happy to try and accommodate any request, though it is dependent on having writers able to fill these requests. You can help this process by spreading the word to your fellow Dwarf and Hobbit writers.

Q: I just received my assignment and it fits perfectly into part of a series I've been working on. Can I use it anyway?

A: We'd prefer your story to be original and created solely for your recipient, but so long as your submission fits the assignment you received, can be read and understood as a standalone, and it's new and unreleased, then go ahead.

Q: Yikes! I've been working on my story, but there was a family emergency and I don't think I'll make the deadline. What should I do?

A: Let us know! The Slashy Swap team have families too and understand that emergencies sometimes happen. The sooner you tell us, the easier it will be for us to come to a mutually agreeable solution.

Q: Unfortunately, the emergency has turned into something longer term and I won't be able to finish my story after all.

A: Again, please let us know as soon as possible so we can find a replacement to finish your assignment.

Q: I signed up for the previous exchanges, but never turned anything in. Can I still participate?

A: No. It simply isn't fair to those who met their obligations, or to the person who didn't get a story. If it was under special circumstances, reach out to the mods and we will review your case.

Q: Do I need to have my work beta read? I don't have one!

A: While we will not strictly enforce the use of a beta, we strongly encourage it. At the very least, please proof read and run a spell and grammar check. If you need help finding a beta, let us know and we'll direct you to some beta resources. Remember, you're writing a gift for someone, so make your story as perfect as it can be.

Q: HELP! I received the worst assignment in the world! What were you thinking? I can't write this!

A: It was likely an oversight. Please contact us and we will do what we can to find another assignment that is more to your taste and ability. If you already confirmed you would accept it, we can't make promises, but we'll do the best we can to help.

NOTE: In some rare instances, it may not be possible for a request to be filled to the requestor's exact specifications. This may occur if no author is willing to write the elements in the request (some examples are BDSM, fetish, rape, MPREG, or character death). In this case, the participant will be asked to revise their request so that we'll be able to match it.

Tolkien Reverse Summer Bang 2018

Tolkien Reverse Summer Bang 2018

What is it?

A Tolkien-fandom-wide event celebrating the creativity of our fanworks creators co-run by Raiyana ( @joyfullynervouscreator ) and Narya(@naryaflame ), your friendly community mods.

No, but, Raiy, what is it specifically?

A Reverse Bang is a type of Big Bang event in which artists submit art prompts (up to 3 total, though each prompt can be more than one image/visual artwork).  The art prompts are then claimed by writers who will write a piece of fiction based on the prompt chosen.

Big Bang?  Wait, are you going to make me write a novel, Narya?!

No, minimum word count is set at 5000 words.

But I don’t have time!

That’s alright, we need cheerleaders, too ;)

Alright, maybe I do have a little bit of time…

Great! This is the event schedule:

May 1, 2018: Sign-ups open

May 15, 2018: Artist sign-up closes

Monday, May 21, 2018: Art Draft due

Friday, May 25, 00:01 CET, 2018: Art Drafts up for previewto signed up authors

Saturday, May 26, 2018: Author sign-ups close

Monday, May 28, 20:00 CET, 2018: Claims open [What time is that for me?]

Sunday, June 3, 2018: Post-Claim Check In – This is to ensure that our collaborators have got in touch with each other

July 5, 2018: Check In. We will be asking how your collaboration is progressing and whether you are on track to finish by the deadline.

July 30, 2018: Check In. We will ask whether you have discussed posting logistics with your artist (if you’re embedding art in your AO3 story, for example), whether the banner for your Community MasterPost is complete, and whether you have specific posting needs re publicizing date/time frame.

August 17, 2018: Deadline to tell us “Help, my pants are on fire and I won’t be able to complete my story!”  (We understand.  Life happens.  Just let us know as soon as possible so we can find a pinch hitter.)

August 25, 2018: Fics due.

Monday, August 27, 2018: Posting begins in the last week of August, running in staggered schedule until all Fics have been posted/reblogged.

The scheduled times and dates are not negotiable.

We hope to see even more beautiful art as the event progresses!

The Sad Demise of Tolkien Archives

I was reading a post by Indy on Dreamwidth about her updating her list of Tolkien-specific archives and so many are dying. Only 3 are really active now: The Silmarillion Writers Guild, MPTT (Many Paths to Tread) and Faerie. I will link to Indy's Tumblr post which anyone can see.

I feel it's very important to keep these smaller Tolkien-specific archives going, and I do think there'll be an upsurge in fic once Amazon?s Lord of the Rings series is launched. So let's do all we can. If you know anyone who does not post on here, please encourage them to do so (or on one of the others). When I came into online fandom there were loads of Tolkien archives and they have just withered.

Here is Indy's Tumblr post:

B2Me — Back To Middle-earth Month

It’s Back to Middle-earth Month with the Silmarillion Writer’s Guild.

It is said by the Eldar that in water there lives yet the echo of the Music of the Ainur more than in any substance that is in this Earth; and many of the Children of Ilúvatar hearken still unsated to the voices of the Sea, and yet know not for what they listen.~ The Silmarillion,

Welcome to Back to Middle-earth Month 2018!

As a reminder, our home base is now Dreamwidth; our Tumblr and LiveJournal communities are admin posts only.

We’re running a 31 x 31 x 16 challenge this year. 31 prompts have been posted now for participants who prefer more time to create. Another set of prompts will be posted in March. The March prompts are divided into two categories--fanwork and comment. The fanwork prompts will be posted daily; the comment prompts every other day. Fanwork prompts are for the creation of any type of fanwork. Comment prompts are for leaving feedback on Tolkien-based fanworks, whether written for B2MeM or not.

As always, you may use as few or as many prompts as you wish to. Let us stress that: creating one fanwork using one prompt is just as welcome and valuable as creating something daily. Using one of the comment prompts to comment on one fanwork is also just as valuable.

If you finish creating your fanwork(s) early, we ask that you please wait until the event begins in March to post them.
